TL;DR

  • I decided to skip my return flight to the USA, got a counterfeit Spanish passport, and I’ll be staying here for the next year!

  • Portugal was lovely. It’s hilarious to me that I can read their language but can’t understand it verbally at all.

  • First part - April Fools - but a guy can dream.

CURRENTLY

Documenting my journey

If you want to see me dance, click the image above.
If you want to see an honest reflection on a week in Portugal, click here.

  • I got really lucky with transportation (flights, trains, buses, metros, bikes, and trolleys) this month, as well as accommodations (hostels, Airbnb’s, hotels) - everything was as expected with no real delays or hidden fees!

    • I also dodged getting sick, something that frequently used to happen to me when I travel. Power of positive thinking, I think.

  • I have a lot of videos to edit and post, so even though I’ve left Spain for now, expect to see some fun Spain content over the coming weeks. #sorrynotsorry

  • This includes both reflections and sharing my journey, as well as having some fun with it (see the dancing video above).

FINANCES

Money and Investing Updates

  • $177. That was my average daily spend over the last month!

    • This included $78 per day on average for lodging and $44 per day for food and drinks.

    • Full breakdown:

What can I say, I love a good dashboard.

BUSINESS PULSE

Foundation Media

  • For our digital ads agency, I was tired of paying for tools like Clay for GTM research, so I built my own version using Claude Code within a few hours. Saves me $400/mo of Clay credits. Let me know if you want to see it.

Treatly

  • I finally fixed the “white text” bug - sorry to my users for that one… New update is pending in the App Store right now and should be out soon.

My month of treats within Treatly.

  • I’m working on building out a dope new website, sponsorship packages, and more for Micro Investing. Next quarter will be a big one with lots of updates.

  • Shoutout to Michael, Jakob, Gabi, and the team for some insane social numbers this quarter including adding 18k new Instagram followers in just the last three months.

Build in Motion

  • In my first quarter of posting Reels on Instagram and writing this newsletter, I grew by 480 followers on Instagram (includes 128 unfollows 🤷‍♂️), and have the newsletter up to 220 subs, generating over $100 in sponsorship revenue so far. Baby steps.

WHAT I’M LEARNING

Travel Skills

  • Travel days require lots of discipline. I booked many of my flights, trains, and busses this month in the morning, while the US is asleep. But, inevitably, some working hours get lost to travel, and it’s totally on me to stay focused and lock in when I can in airport lounges, on trains, and in the sky. When everyone around you is drinking and scrolling on their phones, it takes a different type of self-motivation to get things done.

  • A week is a nice length of time in a new city to get a taste, and a day is too short. For places I loved this month (Sevilla, Madrid, Barcelona), I found myself wishing I had more time there. One of my favorite stops of the whole month was actually Malaga but I’m not sure if that’s because it had the best weather and nicest people, or just because my 24 hours there felt like a daydream.

  • Solo travel is not as scary as it sounds. If you’ve done an extensive solo trip, you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t (like me one month ago) - it’s worth trying.

DESK OF THE WEEK

📍 Coworking Cafe in Lisbon, Portugal

Insane lunch options here made this desk even better. This homemade lunch plate from the chef here was $13.

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • I’m excited to celebrate Easter with my family this weekend and enjoy some bike rides on the greenways of Cary NC, before flying to Colombia next Friday.

  • No newsletter next week, as I’ll be building in place, rather than building in motion :)

  • See you on April 16 from Medellin! 🇨🇴

Adventure is out there!
