TL;DR
La Alhambra in Granada is the most beautiful building I’ve seen in my entire life - full stop. I cried. In general, I found the rest of the city to be nice, but it wasn’t my favorite overall.
I’m trading Spanish tapas for tagines, kebabs, couscous, and olives here in Morocco!
Thank you to everyone who has sent messages about this newsletter, my content on Instagram and LinkedIn, and that has asked for pics - it inspires me to keep sharing.
CURRENTLY
Documenting my journey
My hostel in Malaga was attached to a cafe with all day espresso, sandwiches, and pastries. Plus, they encouraged digital nomads to work from there - it was great to meet a few folks and get some work done before my flight to Tangier.
To get to Tangier from southern Spain, there are two main options.
1) The ferry. It runs from towns like Tarifa. The timing wasn’t great on the options this week for me.
2) A $20, 20-minute Ryanair flight. This was the option I chose.
I thought it would be more romantic to take the ferry, but the plane was so fast and the Malaga airport lounge was nice (enjoyed a couple lemon Fantas), so I don’t regret it.
The gym at my Granada hotel was a disappointment, but the breakfast options were astounding.
In Tangier, the food is fantastic! My riad (guesthouse) I’m staying at cooks a fantastic breakfast for the guests each morning, and the local cuisine has really impressed me.
BUSINESS PULSE
Treatly
It’s 100% free, and it’s been an absolute joy for me to use this month while finding new coffee shops and dessert spots in Spain.
I would be honored if you download the app, add me as a friend to share your treats with me (@mitten is my username), and give the app an honest rating and review!

Here’s my March calendar so far from my Treatly app!
Foundation Media
We’ve been developing a proprietary process to audit the full digital presence of a business. From our research and audit, we’re able to make actionable recommendations on how to improve the business’ online presence including their SEO, ads, GEO and AEO (for discovery within AI tools), and website.
If you’re curious about this for your business or one you work with, I’d be happy to create an audit for you - LMK.
Micro Investing
I’m stoked to be helping my best friend Michael (@micro.investing across socials) with a few things for his brand.
We’re building the most trusted brand in alternative investments, and this is only the beginning. But hey, 200k followers across social platforms and nearly 10k newsletter subscribers is a pretty amazing beginning.
Congrats to Michael and the team (Amy, Gabi, Jakob) on all the growth so far, and I’m thrilled to spend a bit more time helping Micro Investing scale.
WHAT I’M LEARNING
Solo Travel
Turns out there’s right and wrong ways to do solo travel. Pros and cons. Scary things and freeing things.
I’m over two weeks into this journey, and I’m adapting every day. Learning a lot about the world. And learning a lot about myself.
Small World
In many ways, life in Morocco feels very distant from my life in the USA. The country is 99% Muslim, compared to 1% in the USA. It’s currently Ramadan, which means many restaurants are closed during the day here, and there are many special prayers throughout the day and evenings.
Even though most things about this place feel unfamiliar, it’s easier to connect with the locals and other tourists (I haven’t met any from America out of the dozens I’ve talked to this week) than I imagined.
For example, one of the employees at my current guesthouse has built a property management system for himself using Claude Code and currently is operating multiple hotels in Tangier on this system. We bonded over our vibe-coded projects past midnight yesterday, because we were both so excited to show each other what we’d built.
It’s easy to assume that less-developed countries are unsafe, or not fit for solo travel. I’m sure this is true with some places in the world. But in Morocco, I haven’t seen anything more than pickpockets. In fact, most of the locals have asked me if it’s safe in America right now, with all our gun violence and the war. It’s a good reminder of how we are viewed by others.
I’ve tried hard to express gratitude towards my hosts and servers, tipped extra when appropriate, and cleaned up after myself, sure - but the people of Tangier have opened their arms to me in an extremely wholesome way.
While it hasn’t been easy to get a lot of work done here (religious holidays combined with weak wifi), it’s been a beautiful 3-days of my journey, and I’m glad I made the trip to Morocco.

WHAT I’M CONSUMING
Another weekend, another F1 race missed due to content regulations in Spain. Why can’t we all just be friends and watch F1TV together?
At least Drive to Survive is downloadable for my flights.
FINANCES
Money and Investing Updates
$29. The average daily amount I’m spending on food here. Considering that covers my coffees, meals, sangria, etc. - this seems like a steal!
I’ll share more of a budget breakdown once I’ve ran more calculations. If you know me, it will probably come in the form of a dashboard.
$50. The amount of foreign ATM fees I’ve paid here (so far). Seems like I need to get the Schwab or another debit card with no foreign ATM fees? Let me know if you have any recs.
The currency here in Morocco looks quite cool. Not a single place I’ve been to has accepted credit cards, so I’ve had to exchange Euros to MAD (dh) to cover expenses here.
Another interesting thing here is that InDrive (their version of Uber) has no set prices by the algorithm. You bid what you’re willing to pay, and then haggle with drivers to get a ride. Fascinating.

370dh, equivalent to around $40

Might be hard to beat this desk view…
WHAT’S NEXT?
The first two weeks in Spain blew me away. After Morocco this week, I head to Barcelona and Lisbon for a week each to round out the month!
For April, I’m tracking flight prices to go visit Colombia for a bit.
Adventure is out there!
