TL;DR

  • I’ve gotten to do some great hiking and disc golf with friends in the mountains, and I’m excited to go backpacking tomorrow for a long weekend. Nothing hits quite like spending a few days outdoors.

  • After three weeks of Japanese Duolingo, I know like 5 words, one of which is “sushi” - I think I need to try some YouTube videos instead…

    • Thanks to everyone who sent Japan tips over, I’ll be there June 11 to July 3! 🇯🇵

  • The launch of Mitten Ventures has gone great so far - I took on three projects already.

  • There’s another amazing launch I’m proud to be a part of, and I’ll have more info on Trailmix Wealth below.

CURRENTLY

Documenting my journey

A few highlights (if you can call them that) from our rainy tournament.

  • The highs of my $100 hole-in-one two weeks ago have worn off a bit, and I sadly finished in the middle of the pack in our rainy tournament here in Asheville. Still had fun, but I don’t plan to play in conditions like that ever again, it was a downpour.

  • Congrats to Daniel for beating me in the tourney, his strategy of not practicing seems to have been superior to mine (practicing).

  • This weekend in Asheville we had our annual Camp Friendship college reunion, it was so great to see everyone 🥹

FINANCES

Money and Investing Updates

  • $550. The amount of hotel credits I’ve been able to use on hotels and ryokans in Japan already - shoutout travel credit cards. I also have 400k+ points across cards still and may use some if I come across any phenomenal properties. Then again, I am looking only one week out, so availability is scarce.

  • $871. The amount I spent at restaurants and coffee shops in May. To be fair, many of these were meals for friends and family hosting me, too, but this was my biggest expense category for May. Pretty wild.

BUSINESS PULSE

  • The launch of Mitten Ventures has gone well - I’ve taken on three projects already and am currently very near capacity!

  • If you know any businesses that need 1×1 AI implementation, an agentic build, consulting, or a workshop for their business, I have room for one more project in June.

  • I am so proud of my best friend Michael (@micro.investing) for the launch of the Trailmix Wealth brand!

    • Technically, it launches tomorrow publicly, but I’ll give you all a sneak peak. 😉

  • The vision for Trailmix is to build the most trusted brand in cash flow investments. This all starts with providing approachable, free education to advanced wealth-building strategies - and I’m shocked with what Michael decided to give away for free in his free course.

    • If you want to learn more about personal finance and investing, you need to check this out.

  • I am grateful for the chance to create the web design for the new site, which includes dozens of pages, multiple databases and authentication systems, newsletter integration features with Beehiiv, and more. It was such a fun project to build and after months of work, it’s finally live!

DESK OF THE WEEK

📍 Asheville, NC

We played a lot of Catan this week… and when you win here you get to name a sheep. I named mine Andrew and drew a top hat on him.

Shoutout Daniel and Payton for graciously hosting me in the mountains!

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • Two days ago, I had zero things booked for Japan. Today, I at least have 5/9 hotels. Gotta start somewhere - #Progress.

  • Heading to the woods this weekend for some backpacking, swimming, and exploring!

  • I’m still planning to hit Europe for the summer - let me know if you’ll be over there too and want to join our villa.

Adventure is out there!

✌️ Matthew
